Happy Music

It’s time for another blog about music. This is mostly inspired by my belated discovery of another great tune of Colbie Caillat’s. This one is called, “Falling for You,” and it’s greatness. I defy you to listen to it and not be supremely happy. It’s simply not possible. They should make people with clinical depression listen to this repeatedly throughout the day. It’s like Musical Prozac.

The song is about that really fun moment when you’ve discovered that you’re in love with someone but you’re scared to tell them. You’re also super excited at your new discovery, and you think maybe, just maybe happiness awaits. All that has to happen is to tell him and have him react the same. In other words, if you’re like me, this is that really great moment before all your hopes are dashed.

So, I started thinking about other songs that make me happy. I have a great list:

“Happy Together,” The Turtles

“Silly Love Song,” Paul McCartney with Wings

“Have You Never Been Mellow,” Olivia Newton John

“Walkin’ On Sunshine,” Katrina and the Waves

“Close to You,” The Carpenters

“Sunshine on My Shoulders,” John Denver

“Carolina on My Mind,” James Taylor

“Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” Beach Boys

“God Only Knows,” Beach Boys

“As,” Stevie Wonder

“You Can Call Me Al,” Paul Simon

“Me & Julio Down by the Schoolyard,” Paul Simon

“Love’ll Never Do,” Janet Jackson

“Miss You Much,” Janet Jackson

“Feel Good Inc,” The Gorillaz

“Got My Mind Set On You,” George Harrison

“When You’re Falling,” Afro Celt Sound System with Peter Gabriel

“Sledgehammer,” Peter Gabriel

If you made an iPod play list with just these songs and named it, “Happy,” I guarantee that it would cure what ails you if you’d listen to it. You can thank me later.
